WinLayout uses your numeric keypad to arrange, resize windows

Windows 7 already provides several handy keyboard shortcuts for moving and resizing application windows. If you're running an older version or want a more exhaustive set of commands at your fingertips, take a look at WinLayout.The free, open source application is built on top of AutoHotkey and adds some serious arrangement kung fu your under-loved numeric keypad.
For its basic moves, WinLayout slices your screen up into a 3x3 grid (think tic-tac-toe board). Hold the Windows key and tap the corresponding key to send an app to that spot on the grid - 7 = top left, 5=center, 3=bottom right, etc.
Windows can also be resized and moved in single-pixel increments. Word of warning: not surprisingly, some commands do interfere with those built in to Windows 7.

I run it, but it does nothing (it disappears from the running tasks almost instantly)

It puts an icon in the taskbar. You can click it to get a list of the shortcuts and such.

Winsplit Revolution does this extremely well and it's been around for a while.

I'd like to like this one. Doesn't play super nice with multiple monitors though. Just treats the whole space as one big screen, which might be okay for some situations. If I move something to the left or right it takes up two thirds of one of my screens. If I move something to the top or bottom it stretches across both screens. If I move something to the center it's split down the middle between both screens. I haven't tried Win7 with multiple monitors, so it might treat things the same way, I don't know. It probably doesn't help that my two monitors aren't at exactly the same height (yeah, I tried. They're from two different manufacturers and won't adjust to quite the same height). I'd try it at home, but there I have Win7 and don't have a numeric keypad. :( Guess I'll reluctantly pass on this one.
