Snowbird is a fast, light weight search utility for Windows
Snowbird doesn't need to be installed to your computer. You can store it on a USB flash drive and run it on any Windows computer.
The program has a handful of options, including the ability to show hidden files or display the classic Windows address bar. The Snowbird interface looks a lot like a normal Windows Explorer window, and you can sort search results by name, size, type, or date modified.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Nothing I've run into so far beats "Everything" search utility from voidtools.com. Lightweight, instant, fast... just untouchable.

Yes, I was going to ask how this compares to Everything. My only complaint with Everything so far is that right-clicking the results window tends to crash the app...

Yeah, that might be your system's issue... I've never had a problem, and I've used Everything on at least a handful of different systems.

I've only used it on one system but on this PC I'm using now I really use it daily and never had a problem with it. Couldn't say what was causing that problem. Maybe worth a trip over to the official site to ask there.

What Crazy Serv said. Everything is just incredible. All Vista/Win7 has thrown at search doesn't even start to compare to the lightning fast and resource friendly Everything, that really does search everything.
Try cleaning out thumbs.db with windows search, not gonna happen. Everything grabs all 5 of my hard drives thumbs.db files in a second. Just an example. I love it.

I used Locate32.
Talk about instant, locate32 begins searching with each letter you type.
There is nothing faster.

So does Everything. You get that feeling of Ajax search suggest as you type... sweet, just sweet!

Seems a hell of a lot slower than Everything

For fast searching I still prefer grepWin - http://tools.tortoisesvn.net/grepWin ... not too much GUI bloat, just fast. And it supports regex.

absolutely no match for EVERYTHING.
any idea which document types are supported for 'Search file contents'?
the Help file isn't very conclusive and neither is the website.
p.s.: if you're looking for a nice content search tool, check this one:
http://docsearcher.henschelsoft.de/
DocSearcher is java application thus it will run on any system where Java is installed.

AFAIK Everything only searches filenames, not the contents?
I use SuperFinderXT

Guys, you can't compare Snowbird to Everything. Because Everything does NOT search file contents, only the names. Snowbird gives you the choice.

Hi guys, I believe Everything is the fastest search tool for file name only.
And for the content, is Snowbird faster than the other solutions offered in the comments?

I'm yet to find anything that does a content search faster than WinXP's built-in search tool. The only trick is to enable FilterFilesWithUnknownExtensions and you'll be cooking with gas. I haven't really given Win7's search a good workout yet.

Ahhh... nobody mentioned (in the initial review either) that Snowbird searches file content too.
Well, I guess Everything developers have something to look forward to in the next version ;)

Well, nobody mention it since it shows clearly in the screen shot. Well, maybe they need to mention it to make it crystal clear :-)
