Mobile news reader AvantGo shutting down
In an era of always connected Smartphones, better web browsers, and RSS readers, it looks like AvantGo has opted to change its business model. AvantGo as we know it is shutting down on June 30th.
Now honestly, it's been years since I used AvantGo, so I suppose I can't complain. But there are still plenty of people out there using older PDAs that aren't integrated with smartphones with 3G connectivity. So this news could leave some of these people high and dry.
The AvantGo team is directing users to try a new application called Snac that provides access to news from a handful of sites including The New York Times, USA Today, Facebook, Twitter, and weather forecasts. But Snac works with Java enabled phones, Blackberry devices, and some Windows Mobile phones. But there's no support for Palm or older Pocket PC devices.

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.
They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...

RIP AvantGo. I used it way back on my Handspring Visor.

Me too. AvantGo was my most used Palm app. But when I moved away for Palm, the WinMo AvantGo app left a lot to be desired.
A lesson to the kiddies out there... innovate or die.

AvantGo was THE killer app that turned my Clie from a mere gadget to an cherished part of everyday life. A sincere Thank You for the years of service and best wishes to all the staff who worked there.

Fuck me. I still have a Zire 72 with a wifi card so AvantGo is the best way to turn the web into something I can still access on my Palm. Anyone know any other apps?

No worries, there's a free app that does this. It's called Plucker. Google it.

I'm with DiRT.
My Palm TX will miss that application, of which I've been using it since I had a Palm III.

The Snac mobile widget app that AvantGo is recommending is pretty cool. Lets you personalize your own screen of widgets. Each provides high level stuff and lets you link out to mobile sites for more. Runs great on my Blackberry Curve, and my girlfriends Sony Ericsson. Looks like the ads aren't yet live, but it doesn't look like they'll be too bothersome.
