The Iconfactory releases Twitterrific 2.0 for iPhone
There's a boatload of Twitter clients out there for the iPhone (it seems to be that everyone's wanting to write them nowadays) however the Iconfactory's Twitterrific was one of the very first to appear on the iDevices and now has hit version 2.0.The original version of Twitterrific, which debuted at the launch of the App Store last summer, was a very slick app that let you read and update Twitter on the go. But since then many other clients such as Tweetie, Twitterfon and the likes have brought plenty more features to the table, and Twitterrific developer Craig Hockenberry has talked on his own blog about why the original Twitterrific didn't include them.
However that's all changed in this all-new version and Twitterrific 2.0 brings you pretty much every feature you've been using in the likes of Tweetie (a favourite amongst us here at Download Squad HQ). Read on for the low-down on some of the all-new features in Twitterrific 2.0 along with our gallery!

First up is the 'Sources' options you'll find yourself when you start the application. The screen lets you add an unlimited number of Twitter accounts (and mark them with any one of a selection of icons) and also save searches for you to come back to. 'Sources' also lists the topics currently trending on Twitter, allows you to use the full resources of the Twitter Search API and includes an option to view updates posted by people near you.
Once you've selected an account and viewing the list of updates, there's plenty more options this time around: the viewing of conversations, ability to view @user-name profiles in-app, as well as integration with numerous other services and applications (Instapaper, stock quotes and more). One particularly neat feature is the ability to mark tweets (as well as favourite tweets) for future reference and the option to add notes to user profiles. The 'marked' tweets are only readable on that particular iPhone in Twitterrific for now, but hopefully some kind of export or email functionality could be built in for a future update.
Continuing the trend of Twitterrific's stylish UI, the Iconfactory have built in three separate themes: Basic, Snowy and Raven (standard iPhone UI look, grey-gradient and dark respectively). Twitterrific has always had a fresh take on the iPhone UI, and this release continues that - the 'Actions' menu (shown right) being one such example.
This release isn't entirely perfect despite the beauty: the application doesn't cache avatars locally all the time, meaning there's a short while without user images particularly on slower GPRS connections; and scrolling around lists of tweets isn't quite as fast as Tweetie. However don't let that dissuade you from Twitterrific - I switched back to using this latest version a couple of weeks ago during private beta testing and haven't regretted it: there's just so many neat little touches in this new release to love.

Normally the ad-free version sells for $9.99, but the price has been dropped for a short while to $3.99 to celebrate the launch of the new version, and both free and paid-for versions are available on the App Store now!

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.
