Ubuntu 9.04 Release Candidate now available
For the most part, Ubuntu 9.04 RC looks a lot like Ubuntu 9.04 Beta which was released last month. Most of the work over the last few weeks has been in making the operating system more stable. But here are a few of the changes since Ubuntu 8.10 was released last fall:
- Updates to the Linux kernel, X.Org server, GNOME and KDE interfaces
- Support for the Ext4 file system
- Improved handling of multiple monitors
- Improved boot speeds
- Updated software including newer versions of Firefox and OpenOffice.org

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Todd and Longshot - Let's get the facts striaght, yeah?
Longshot - Linux and Windows aren't direct competitors. Linux is meant mainly to be free, open-source and Unix based. Windows is meant to be commercial and yet extremely accessible. Apples and Oranges.
Todd - The price of the OS sure, that is true. But Win7 runs on hardware that Vista choked on. Not only do you NOT need to invest in upgrades, you may be able to dust off an older machine and find it runs Win7 faster than XP (I know I've seen this thus far with the beta!)

Not yet; plus this depends on Google, not so much Ubuntu or any part of the Linux community.
When it does drop however, I'm all about it.

While I jumped on the last few Ubuntu releases right away, I think I'll hold off on this one until Windows 7 RC is out. That way I can just take a day to go ahead and reinstall my whole machine instead of royally screwing up my partitions....again.
Hopefully Karmic and Win7 RTM aren't released too far apart so I can do the same.

Any sign of ZFS support? Both read and write access for it?

Win7 wont run on the Eee900 4G, but Ubuntu 9.04 will full speed, booting in about 22 seconds. Thats amazing for 900mhz!
I like windows 7 but I like the fact that I can actually install Ubuntu more.

Up till just recently I have been nothing but a die hard windows user. I mean nothing really matches the universal compatibility of windows; however, Vista was the biggest mistake Microsoft could have made. I too am looking forward to Windows 7. If it proves to better than Vista I may go back. But truth is after having a Vista's window explorer crash 8 TIMES IN TWO HOURS I may never trust a Windows OS again. I mean seriously. So far I have been running Ubuntu for a week, with XP in a virtural box... and my computer has never ran smoother. I just wish i could get my MS office to work with wine... but once I cross that bridge I am probably only going to use a windows machine to game on... but we will see. Anybody know how to get wine to run Office 2007 ultimate... been trying with no luck... and I would prefer a direct contact through my e-mail of someone who has been successful. Thanks... Oh and UBUNTU RULES!

I wonder if Ubuntu 9 (aka Jaunty Jackalope) will support my Creative X-Fi Fatalit1 card. It would be nice if it does. I can't get the new drivers work on 8.10.
