SXSW 2009: building web communities, Threadless-style
Threadless is more than a t-shirt company, as Grant Robertson found out when he chatted with Jeffrey Kalmikoff. Jeffrey explained how Threadless works, and how they've managed to build a community of nearly a million people who submit and vote on awesome new shirts. Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.

It's a good idea, but as a designer I'm just not going to do it.
It sucks to maybe put out say 10 designs and only get 1, or none of them accepted. I'd rather get paid $5 per awesome design than whatever it is for some contest winner.
