Windows Mobile 6.5 to support web apps

A .widget is basically compressed assemblage of HTML, javascript, and image files. Reports indicate that the current build of WM 6.5 includes the two examples shown above - MSN Money and MSN Weather - as well as a Live Search widget.
It's an intelligent move by Microsoft, though likely to draw some criticism for copycatting. Still, with millions of web developers out there .widgets give them a simple way to deploy applications on Windows Mobile devices with their existing coding knowledge.

Nice. They are learning something from Apple. However, websites will have so many versions... Computer version, WAP version, iPhone version, Windows Mobile version...... Optimised sites sometimes become an issues with multiple platforms. I think it should support the Apple WebKit apps so that all iPhne webapps can run on WinMo and developers can avoid one extra optimised site.

Nokia has been doing this for quite some time with its WRT (Web Runtime). Nokia widgets have access to the phone book, GPS and other phone features through a javascript API. I think the BBC iPlayer application runs on it.
