Windows Movie Maker 2.6 available for Vista, Windows 7

Microsoft has made version 2.6 of Movie Maker available for download, and it runs on both Windows Vista and Windows 7. While advanced users are likely using a more sophisticated video editing program, there's no denying that Movie Maker is an excellent, full-featured option for the average home user.

What he means is, does this support AVCHD. The high def encoding that HD Camera's use. Movie Maker for Vista does not support this format, so if you want to easily edit HD video, you have to turn to other software.

Actually when I said "Does this one also lack HD options?" I was comparing it to the Live Movie Maker, which lacks HD export options. So essentially this is just the Windows Movie Maker that was included in XP? No HD features?

Worse. It's basically the XP version with some of it's features stripped out; in other words this sucks. This will run on XP if you copy the files over, so I thought cool a free upgrade. Found out it was actually a downgrade. Very lame Microsoft.

How is this better than the WMM that shipped with Vista? I think this is only good for Win7 users who don't get WMM installed with the OS.

It's actually worse than the version in XP. I don't know what they were thinking.

"Movie Maker 2.6 is for Windows Vista users whose computer cannot run the Vista version of Movie Maker"
That with the 2007 release date should answer all questions above ;)
