Palm pulls the plug on PalmOS
The mobile operating system may have been hot stuff back in the days when people routinely carried around PDAs that didn't double as cellphones. But Windows Mobile, Symbian, and Apple's mobile version of OS X all outperform PalmOS in key areas.
Moving forward, Palm will be focusing on WebOS development. What does that mean for the thousands of free and commercial applications that were developed for PalmOS? It means they won't run on newer Palm devices unless the developers issue updates or you use an emulator like StyleTap.

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.
They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...

I'm not surprised either, but also kind of sad. I've been a user of the Zire 71 and Tungsten E2 for several years. My TE2 is only a couple of years old, and I probably won't get rid of it until I get a smartphone.

Tried to buy a stylus for a PDA at an office supply store and they told me that they no longer sell them - their explaination -- they don't sell PDA's any longer as they have switched to selling smartphones. Absolutely no demand for PDA's.

Too bad many of these phones (the iPhone being a notable example) still don't offer basic PDA functionality. The iPhone has no to-do lists, and its memos have no categories.
Then there's Windows Mobile, which inexplicably REMOVED notes from the OS.
Yet 10 or more years ago, an 8 MB Palm OS device handled all of our contacts, calendars, to-dos, and memos with ease (and categories).
Sad.

Sad... The Palm OS, while old, still works great on phones. I'm sorry, but I simply think it works as good or better than Windows or OSX - and I can sync it up with Windows, Mac, Linux, BeOS, and whatever other OS I have lying around which is something that those other two can't claim.
Very sad, but not unexpected I guess.

That really blows. I love PalmOS, I have zero interest in cell phones, I *hate* the concept of "web as a platform", and I was really hoping to find something like my Zire 71, but with one of the newer versions of PalmOS, a hard drive, and a replacable battery (and graffitti v1).
