Error message cake: Or why human proofreaders are still needed
And that's just what one woman did recently. Unfortunately the message was written in English and Italian and the computer that prints the messages on the cake didn't know how to interpret Italian. So it spit out some weird code -- which wound up on the cake instead.
This is an excellent example of a combination of computer error and human error. Sure, the machine failed to do what the Wegman's staff expected. But you would have thought someone would have noticed the error before showing the cake to the customer.
On the other hand, I could totally see some folks asking for a cake like this for their geekier friends.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

I dunno, I think that is a pretty awesome cake...

Yeah -- despite the error, this cake is great!
I'd love to have a cake with < html > tags or any other nod to geek "cred".
As far as Wegmans, it's not just a store, it's a culture. You walk in and it's like being at Disneyland (no rides, sadly) due to the store layout, cultural art and feel of the store.
As for supermarkets (in the West) like Vons, Albertsons and Stater Bros., they don't even come close to exuding the style that Wegmans has.

You must have lived in North Jersey, in that case I feel the pain. Born and Raised South Jersey. But on the cake, I would totally love to get some thing like that. Now on to Wegman's. A few of my friends and I (if extreamly bored) will go to Wegman's and walk around. I have wasted at least 2 rainy days in there. I swear its better than doing the same at the mall.

As a Rochester, NY native, I appreciate Wegman's also. I walked in to the Pittsford store last night at midnight, and bought cookie dough, fresh-squeezed tangerine juice, and smoked-bacon chocolate.
And I was not under the influence of anything but a few other people.

As a someone from Lockport NY, screw Wegmans. I end up spending more there than at Tops (which is expensive enough as is), and they've refused to build one here (although they are all over the place in Western New York), because we are not 'high class' enough for them.

That error isn't due to the computer not understanding Italian.
That's what it looks like when you paste text from a Word document into the WYSIWYG edit field of something like FCKEditor or TinyMCE. Those are proprietary tags that Word litters throughout the document.
Still, that bakery should have had some kind of proofreading before they actually made the cake.

I foresee a new geek craze: how wacky a message can you get Wegman's to print on a cake?
