Is Google working on an official GDrive for cloud storage?

Just about everyone with a GMail account likes the sound of apps like GmailDrive and Gspace for Firefox, but some users are hesitant to use them.

What if Google decides to pull the pin on apps like these? What about my data!?

An official GDrive has been talked about for ages, but we may not have to wonder much longer. Several users of Picasa for Mac have noticed an interesting menu item: after selecting Move to Collection, Google Web Drive appears as an option. Now isn't that interesting?

Google Blogoscoped has done further digging and discovered that Google owns the domain GoogleWebDrive.com. On top of that, a quick NSlookup reveals that www10.google.com aliases webdrive-client.l.GOOGLE.COM.

The idea of Google providing a cloud storage solution certainly doesn't come out of left field. After all, they're already providing boat loads of free storage for us in one form or another - be it GMail, YouTube, Picasa Web Albums, Blogger, or Google Apps.
