Microsoft lifts 2.5 million limit on Windows 7 downloads

As announced this weekend on the Dev Channel blog, Microsoft has opened the floodgates for Windows 7 beta downloads.

The January 9th launch was a bit of a disaster, with server struggling most of the day to cope with the surge in traffic. In an effort to satisfy frustrated downloaders (and capitalize on the surge of interest in he new OS, no doubt), Microsoft will allow unlimited downloading through January 24th.

Feedback around the net has been largely positive and enthusiastic, which bodes well for Microsoft who continue to call Windows 7 "the best version of Windows ever." With the beta expiring in August, many industry sources are predicting that Windows 7 will be ready in time to ship on new PCs in time for the 2009 holiday season - earlier than Microsoft's early 2010 prediction.
