AllOff turns your PC off when you're not using it

AllOff keeps track of mouse and keyboard movements and CPU load. You can specify what counts as activity. For example, if you want to automatically shut down your computer if the CPU load has been under 5% for 15 minutes you can do that. Or if you want to shut it down when it's been under 30% for 5 minutes you can do that too, although I don't know why you'd want to, since it seems likely that your computer is still chugging away at whatever task you recently set it for.
This program could come in handy if you want to turn your computer off after it's done ripping a DVD, downloading a video, or doing some other task while you're away or asleep. You need to register for a license to use AllOff, but it's free for non-commercial use. For a registration free alternative, check out AMP WinOFF.

some programs don't have built-in "shutdown after completion" options, where after a download or burning something you'd want to shut down.
windows would just shut down based on keyboard activity, where this is based more on cpu activity....

I believe the idea Nate meant to convey is that sometimes less is more, meaning fewer but more relevant articles is preferable, but Nate said "more ... than usual" so even if this app is not useless, Mike did not answer Nate's question (unless Nate meant only one more than usual, which would would not be reasonable.)
The simple answer to Nate's question is that authors are probably either trying to boost their pay (if pay-per-post) or number of posts (for perceived performance purposes) by year end, etc..
Beyond that, there have been some new DLS authors late this year, and the overall focus and tone seems to have shifted toward less substance and reason, with an added emphasis on popular trends, which I expect to continue into next year even if the number of superfluous posts decreases.

As the author of this software I was interested in the comments posted. Yes it does replicate some functions of windows BUT the big advantage is it is not tied to specific times and it does monitor CPU load and can control a remote PC. Another advantage is the shutdown process can be cancelled - a big annoyance wit windows

Tony - if the app not only had the ability to shut down the computer on a threshold as it does now, but also using a schedule to say "If it's after 10pm AND the process drops below 5%, go to sleep". I have my system run a backup to external harddrive and would love to have the ability to wake / sleep the unit as needed in order to run the backup. I don't want to leave my machine running 24/7 (gotta be green and save some too)! Appreciate your follow-up. :)
