AIM Blast: finally, you can IM multiple buddies at once
The Blast Group will then show up on your buddy list, and any IM you send to it will go to everyone in the group. The group acts like a normal AIM account, it just puts people's individual screennames in front of their messages, so you know who's talking. When you invite people (using your group admin page), they'll get a message in AIM asking them to accept or decline. Once they're in, they can IM the group, unless you make it admin-only. That makes your group more like a notification system than a chat, but that may work better for some people.

I really dont see how this is any easier than opening up a chatroom

It's easier because it's permanent. You don't have to open a new one and make everybody join every time you want to talk to the group.

Once everyone has accepted the invite you no longer need to open anything. The end user won't have to agree to enter a chatroom. They'll just receive an IM..
It's quite handy and we've been using it in our office for a while now. If someone has a question for the team we just ask the reflector and anyone in the group can answer. It is especially handy when working with other teams to find out if something wrong is a known issue.

Just now? Wow. I think this has been a new features on Live Messenger too. I thought AIM had this for a long time. I'm quite astonished.

Other way around, it's actually been MSN/Live Messenger that's had this feature for awhile.

This seems pretty cool.
VingTalk also lets you send or respond to private or group messages by text, e-mail, and even voice to text. It makes it really easy to send a message to multiple friends.

Trillian has had a mass IM feature for a long time.

Trillian's Mass IM feature allows *you* to send mass IM's to buddies on your list.
This works the other way around. A *central* list is maintained, and you send an IM to a single IM address. That message is blasted to everyone on that list. They can do the same, which Trillian's mass IM feature does not support.

Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up.
