Mobile voice, IM app Fring announces embedded ad trials
On their official blog yesterday, they announced the introduction of embedded ads on a trial basis. No specifics were given, only the reassurance that revenues would be used to sustain development and bring even more great features to Fring.
Ads will appear only for "a small number of randomly selected Fringsters each day." They continue, reassuring users that their Fring experience won't be affected.
While I don't own a device capable of running the app, I have used it on a friend's iPod touch. I'm not generally a fan of adware, Fring is certainly a good enough app to deal with the minor annoyance of a few banners - provided they're kept to a reasonable level.
If you're a Fring user, what do you think about this news?

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. There isn't really a whole lot of extra screen space on most mobile devices, so I'm not sure that ads are the best way for Fring make money. However, if the little ads can help keep Fring going, then good for them.
I really want to like Fring, but I haven't been able to get their software to work. I've tried it on my WinMo handset, and on my iPhone. When making a Skype call with Fring, there's incredibly high latency, and it's just not feasible to actually use.
Hopefully they'll use some of the ad revenue to hire more engineers.

A great decision you have just made. I deleted them right after I noticed they add a Logged-in with Fring thingy to your personal message.

I'm not sure what ads they are talking about exactly. They have the "User is using Fring" for a long time which is really irritating but then it was still acceptable.
However, there is a limit as to how many ads they will throw up. If it gets unbearable then well... it's bye bye!
