Microsoft to launch "Windows Cloud" operating system soon
Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer says the company will unveil a new operating system called "Windows Cloud" within a month. Now before you go jumping to conclusions, no Windows Cloud will not be replace Windows 7, it will not necessarily let you store all of your data in the online "cloud," and it probably isn't really even designed for you anyway. Oh yeah, it probably won't be called Windows Cloud by the time it launches. So what is Windows Cloud? It's an operating system designed for developers who want to write applications for cloud-computing. In other words, web applications like Gmail, Hotmail, Zoho Office, or Windows Live Maps. It could lead to a growth in the number of web-based applications available. But without knowing more about the software or even how it's supposed to work, it's tough to make any real predictions.
Microsoft will unveil more details about the Cloud OS at the company's Professional Developers Conference in LA later this month.

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Think LiveMesh on steriods with a great API.

I would have to agree especially since LiveMesh is only a proof of concept project. It was never supposed to be a full product. And Windows Cloud actually sounds like a full product that they built from the evolution of LiveMesh.

Clippy in the Cloud - Awesome!
P.S. If this isn't an admission the desktop is dead, I don't know what is. Just exactly WHAT is Microsoft business model now?

No its not an admission the desktop is dead, Balmer never said or inferred that, do not assume otherwise.
Microsoft have a very firm business model, just like Apple, Google and so on...

I'm guessing it's more or less Microsoft's version of a lightweight OS for basic functionality like web browsing and doing stuff online. Maybe even a Word processor. Most likely, it'll include Windows Live apps (Wave 3 is pretty good!) by default, but the whole OS is probably optimized for cloud computing and web browsing in general.
Most likely an OS for netbooks, UMPC's, that sort of thing. Not sure, but that's what I'd guess. I hope it's really good. I don't think Windows 7 will be scrapped of course, Windows Cloud is probably one of those specialized OS's, most likely cheap or free. I'm curious.
