You may have encountered
Google Suggest in Google News in the past few months and if you haven't already, you're about to start seeing it in your search box as well.
Google Suggest is movin' on up from Google Labs onto the Google homepage in increments this week. If you haven't seen it yet, you will.
According to Google this should help you:
- enter more specific search criteria quickly
- reduce the chance of spelling errors
- save keystrokes
be annoyed with Google yet again
I guess it might be cool, though it only saved me two keystrokes when I was googling Download Squad. And I think I can type in my search criteria more quickly than I can type part of it and read a list, type some more to see more choices and on and on. But, who knows, maybe I might like it. Like Mikey and his cereal.

The Google Search in Firefox already has this option by default.

I find the hit counter very useful -- if I don't know how to spell something, or if I'm having a hard time deciding on keywords, usually the one with the most hits is the "best" phrasing.

Yahoo! Search already has this feature - for a long time too. Personally I like Yahoo! Search more than Google but Gmail is still better than Ymail.

This really drives me crazy. I am just glad they let you disable it. if they didn't have that option, I might stop using google. (yes there are other sites)

I hardly ever see the front page. I have a keyworded bookmark so I just open a new tab and in the location type go keyword keyword keyword.
The only problem is that sometimes Google thinks I'm a bot. I go to the front page, enter my request, and I get it. And I find that odd, especially since the last time that I happened, I wanted an update to Gmail drives. Then I found out that was using the wrong password on my drive. :-O

Funny how if MS did this, it's automatically a rip-off of Yahoo!'s Search Assist. Though Microsoft has had AutoComplete/Suggestion type of feature built into the Windows Live Toolbar since 2005.
The built-in search box in IE8 will also display Live Search's AutoComplete (or Auto Suggest), as well as a rumor it will be integrated on Live.com (with an off button)

I noticed the other day that it doesn't like C# ... if you try to search for anything C# related, you end up with plain old C...
