Noise of the white variety, right on the webernets
Have you ever been working somewhere and needed to focus on what you were doing, writing, saying, but there was too much ambient noise around you?You know, peoples iPods crankin' or chitter chatter chattin'.
SimplyNoise is about to become your best friend.
At desk jobs (ewwww), they sometimes pump in "White noise" to push out sound and give you a bit more privacy, but you can't control how much of it you get.
SimplyNoise works kind of like an air conditioner in that you can amp it up to as much as you need. SimplyNoise's site states that white noise can help get you in a zen state, give you more privacy while on the phone, help you fall asleep, and even ease migraines.
Since we're all writers, and some of us have annoying construction going on outside of their condo during the day, we'll put it to the test and you should too.
Let us know in the comments if white noise is the right noise for you.

Well that's annoying... I don't see how that could be relaxing. People really listen to that as a way to fall asleep? All I could think of was "Someone turn that TV OFF!"

Brown noise is much more relaxing. This is too harsh and bright, very annoying.

I agree, brown or pink noise is much nicer.
I used Audacity to create the sound of the beach, by generating a period of white noise, low-pass-filtering it to pink, then putting an amplitude variation on it so it sounded like gentle surf. Then I put it on my MP3 player.

Hey Everyone! First off thanks DLS for writing about our website, we just wanted to let everyone know that we are in the works of making other variations of the noise for users to choose from ( brown, pink ) and maybe we'll even experiment with a few hybrid ones in the near future. Thanks again for all your support, we hope our little website can make your life a little easier.

Nice site.
Personally I find Pink Noise much easier to listen too.
Though it's interesting the way it masks out the background rubbish in the office.

Wow, how can anybody stand listening to that? Personally I'd rather just throw on some headphones and play something like Pink Floyd.

I work at a manufacturing facility and my office is right next to some dyeJets and dryers that are noisy as hell!! I had gotten used to it and kinda didn't notice this anymore... but with the right level of WN I think I can bare it a bit more...
thanks DLS

iglesias, did you try to use some earplugs?
I don't know how much attenuation you need but you can get a decent -32db foam earplugs for $3 or so from CVS etc.
