While Opera might not have much market share in the desktop browser space, the company's mobile browser is miles ahead of the browsers that come standard with most Windows Mobile, Symbian, or other cellphones. Opera Mini and Opera Mobile 8.65 are already some of the best mobile browsers around. Opera Mobile 9.5 adds Flash Lite 3 support, quicker page rendering, full page zoom, a password manager, and the ability to copy and paste text selections.
Today the Opera Mobile team announced that the first public beta version of Opera Mobile 9.5 will be available for download on July 15th. If history is anything to go by, Opera will probably charge somewhere between $20 and $30 for this browser eventually. But while in beta, the browser will be free.

Man, July 15th... four days after the iPhone APP store opens? God, if only... I know it's a silly dream, but a man is still allowed to dream, is he not!?

I've been running the leaked beta for a couple of weeks, and while I like a lot of the features, it has some performance issues I hope they've worked on. Also, reading text that's just slightly wider than the screen when using Desktop-style rendering is a pain in the ass (since you have to scan back and forth for every single line) -- maybe they've addressed that as well?
I hope more people get a chance to try the public beta and leave feeback here.

I've read your posting on how to load the full desktop on the Asus EEE PC but couldn't find out how to ask a question there. I followed your instructions and after clicking "full desktop" in the "shutdown" menu, the EEE seems to load and run a programme and then just goes back to the Asus Easy menu(s).
