Google discontinues Google Browser Sync
If you've been waiting patiently for Google to update Google Browser Sync to run on Firefox 3, it looks like you can stop waiting. Lifehacker reports that the company has decided to discontinue development of the product.Google Browser Sync provides Firefox 2 users a way to synchronize their bookmarks, history, cookies, and saved passwords across multiple browsers on multiple computers. In other words, you can use the program to make sure the settings on your home browser are identical to your settings on your browser at work.
According to a Google representative, the folks who had been working on the browser plugin had moved onto other projects. But honestly, we're not surprised to see that Google Browser Sync is no longer a priority for Google. Mozilla is now working on its own synchronization service called Weave, which lets you synchronize bookmarks and browser history across multiple computers.
With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.
They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...

Erm, is there still an API so that if someone wanted, they could continue development on their own?

That's the problem with all the free gadget development that goes on at google. Projects are left half-finished or randomly discontinued.
*sigh* I really like the Sync

Unfortunately, Weave is buggy.

It is a bit of a shame, but yeah, when Weave matures it's likely to be a lot better. I'm quite excited for Weave 0.2, finally an extension which backs up other extensions!
My understanding is that if all goes well with the Weave project they'll be looking at integrating it in to Firefox 4 (which will likely not be for another 2 years, so plenty of time to mature).

You can use Foxmarks Synchronizer add-on, works well on Firefox.

Am confused -- doesn't Google already have some kind of social bookmarking feature? The "Notebook"? If they just had a Firefox extension to integrate with that, they wouldn't need a sync (for bookmarks, anyway). And I don't feel like Google has much to gain from helping you sync your browser history -- there's already addons to do that for you.

Does anyone care? Google has gotten so big that they don't care about the average person. Sure...get us on to some software and then leave us hanging dry! I stay away from any of Google's snake oil products.
