StyleTap confirms plan to bring PalmOS apps to the iPhone
Now it's official. StyleTap is coming to the iPhone. The company plans to release the application in early July. That means you'll soon be able to run over 20,000 applications designed for PalmOS on an iPhone or iPod touch.
The company said they wanted to gauge the interest in the product before deciding whether to proceed with development. The videos posted to YouTube and Viddler have been watched more than 800,000 times, so apparently there is some interest.

HURRAH!!
That seals it! I'm gettin one. I'm a longtime Treo owner who was considering buying an iphone, but love all my Palm apps and games.
Question is... will Apple *approve* this software?
If they do it will sell even more iphones to people like me and also all those Palm users in medical fields where the Palm is the standard for medical applications.
Apple is still being sly about their approval process and has not been willing to say what their plans are in that regard.
Apple has a very real chance to become THE standard for mobile computing, like the "pc" became when they kept it fairly "open" to developers.
Will Apple get too greedy and repeat history?

It is a very interesting product, a PalmOS emulator.

blah, palm os blows. I used it for many years and left it in favor of windows mobile (which also blows). Now that iPhone OS is out, why in the world would I want to go back to this 10 year old technology?
Many apps will be out in only a short week and Apple has already said they aren't going to allow apps to run code for other apps (e.g. java, palm).

not a comment on the story but, viddler player: worst player ever, it makes my webcam kick on in ubuntu hardy and thus makes the main page take 4 times longer to load

Bufsabre, we find Viddler to work pretty well around here, but I'll be sure to point this out to the Viddler folks. Clearly a bug that needs fixing...
