Opera browser gets itself in Gear(s)
The cult favorite Opera Browser has added support for Google Gears to its desktop and mobile browsers.Google Gears is the product that allows you to seamlessly (hopefully) integrate your web experience and your desktop experience by storing information on your computer so that you don't have to wait for your slow funky dial up to grind its own gears. Basically, it's bringing the web data to you.
Now they're going mobile with it.
Opera Mini, the mobile browser, has gained way more traction than their desktop version. Global reach and being on as many devices as possible has always been a goal of theirs. Although they don't have a huge market share with Desktop users, the people who use it are loyal beyond belief.
The loyalty comes from the fact that Opera is extremely focused on web standards, something that Microsoft has not cared about until recently with Internet Explorer. In fact, Opera sued them over it.
You'll be able to give Google Gears for mobile a shot when Opera Mini 9.5 comes out later this year.

Drew, I think you meant "Opera Mobile", not "Opera Mini". Opera Mobile 9.5 for WinMo, S60 devices will support Gears when the browser arrives in the near future. And it's a SWEET browsing experience... we've been playing with it for a good month now. Might even be as good as (if not better) than Safari on the iPhone, depending on the device you're using.

I have been an Opera user for 10 years and I wish they would concentrate on making Opera work with more web sites than adding more bells and whistles.
Opera loves to say that their browser will work with any site that respects web standards. Thats all fine and good but Orbitz, the Sirius Radio player and various other sites work fine in Firefox and IE but not Opera.
That being said, I would not trade Opera for either of those browsers (I have tried). Both Firefox and IE feel intolerably slow after using Opera.

So what does adding Gears support for Opera Mobile *do*? Does that mean I'll be able to use any Gears-supporting webapp offline on my HTC Hermes? 'Cause that would rock. Now, if they could just hook up Reader to Gears, I'd be all set...

How can you then install gears? I have been to the GG site and it says that "your browser is not supported". all i see is the press release about the support!
