Help us Obi-Wan - Holographic teleconferencing is closer
Musion Systems and Cisco Networks may be bringing our dreams to life.Ever not want to attend a meeting in person? Ok, dumb question. But you've never had an option, unless you lied and said you got stung by 100 bees, or were contaminated in some way. But even at that, you'd have to eventually provide SOME proof.
Well, the future of laziness may be closer than we think.
This HAS to be too good to be true.
Maybe, but maybe not. With some fancy cameras and IP networks, you can have people on stage at an event or meeting that are not even there! Zuck could have done his SXSW keynote from Ecuador! And he would have been able to see the audience just like he was there!
These two companies have teamed up to create the Cisco On-Stage TelePresence Experience using technologies from each.
The possibilities are ENDLESS. Don't want to visit mom? No problem, hologram yourself to the Church group brunch. Have a long distance relationship? Feel closer than iChat with someone.
We're not sure when this is going to happen but we hope to get a Beta invite.
Check out this awesomesauce demo video.

It's not about laziness anymore.
We need this to combat the gas prices. Employers need to wake up on this point, too. They are burning up their employees' livelihoods with the 5-day work week. Think of all the jet fuel this would save, too.
As long as we have liberal terrorists running our legislature and making up taxes so they have more of our money to waste, so they can deliberately torpedo our economy, this is going to remain an issue.
And grow up, America. Drill ANWR.

That's a really good point on the savings of gas and travel, didn't even think of that.
But don't forget the lazy.

I think companies should go to a 4 day 10 hour work week, it seems to be a good idea to save on commuting costs. I think someone has been drinking too much right wing lemonade. I highly doubt a conservative Congress would spend any less money from looking at the last Republican dominated Congress past examples. Drilling in the ANWR would not show any immediate effects to gas prices. People need to face the reality of $5 or more gallon gas and adapt and stop bitching we knew it was coming so we shouldnt act shocked or you need to move to Venezuela where its 12cents a gallon.

But here's the problem with that point:
"Drilling in the ANWR would not show any immediate effects to gas prices."
It wouldn't have had to show any "immediate effects" if we had done it when we needed to, and we would have, if the elected had any foresight at all. The Republicans didn't stick to their guns on the issue, because they want everybody to like them, and two years later, the "First 100 Democrat Days" Congress has done NOTHING.
We have no legislative energy policy in an emergency (real or perceived), they've done nothing on Iraq as they said they would. Instead, they whine about wanting hearings on everything BUT the actual, critical issues.
Now that they're back in power, they're all about petty squabbling and gotcha politics. They're all worthless, and all three political candidates are from the same do-nothing swamp.
We need responses and ideas, and instead we get warm, fuzzy platitudes like "hope." We hear about "experience" from old and young elitists who HAVE NO CONVICTIONS. They're all three nothing but brand names, spouting what people want to hear as they search for a Messiah.
I don't know who disgusts me more; the candidates or anyone stupid enough to vote for them.
