Find duplicate images with Dup Detector

The crowd has spoken. We featured an application earlier today that lets you compare images in your library to find dupicate pictures. And a whole bunch of you wrote in to let us know that Dup Detector does the same thing, only better. So we checked it out and you're kind of right, and you're kind of not.
Dup Detector is certainly faster than DupliFinder. And it has many more features. But it's possible it has a few too many features. It took us a couple of minutes to figure out how to load a folder. Once we did, Dup Detector scanned over 2000 images in a bout a minute. When we clicked the Find dups button, the program processed them in a matter of seconds.
For the record, here's how to load a single folder:
-
Select the Get data tag
-
Click Build
-
Click Browse
-
Navigate to the folder of your choice
-
Click OK
-
Selet the Find dups tab
-
Click Find dups
-
Select the View Dups tab to actually see the duplicates
You can change the algorithm for detecing similar images. But this is where DupliFinder excels. It does an excellent job of finding images that actually bear a resemblance to one another, while Dup Detector wil spit out a bunch of pictures with similar colors. In other words, if you have a lot of pictures with white backgrounds, Dup Detector will count them as duplicates. You can avoid this by setting the "Dup if within" percentage to something near 100%.

hey, Brad...
I didn't know a crowd and a whole bunch begins at 4?
But that's OK, it shows your dedication and perseverance.. oh, wait, it's the same thing, right?
OK, seriously, Dup Detector is better for me.
It also amazes me that this program has not found an equal since its last release on Feb.7, 2005.
Back to you, Houston.

For large collections of pictures i use VisiPic (http://www.visipics.info/), a freeware more mature than Duplifinder or Dup detector.
Thanks for all suggestions on Download Squad.

A BETTER OPTION EXISTS >> Microsoft Expression Media 2 (formerly iView Media Pro) for both Mac & PC offers a feature to "Find Similar Images"....not sure what algorithm is uses to do it's mojo, but I've found this to be the single most effective way of finding duplicate images on my computers!

This does not work for me in any way shape or form. Even if I make a copy of a file, it still will not identify any duplicates. It's terrible, I'm sorry.

I tried all of them yesterday (including the ones mentioned in comments), and while they all found some duplicates, every single one of them was unable to identify reliably identical images scanned from two different scanners, varying only in image size and color casts. Identical pictures no less. I even tried matching on luminance only, no luck.

There's something called Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder that truly compares images and its really good, but its not free. Its the only one I know that can find duplicates even if the images are not in the same resolution, have different colors/lighting, crops, etc..
@Jeebus, I guess this is what you're looking for.

Visual Similarity Duplicate Image Finder will find all similar and duplicate images in a folder and its sub folders. It uses advanced algorithms in order to find similar images in a way that a human does. Due to that fact it can find similar images even if they are in different image formats and sizes.
