Cross-platform audio editor Audacity updated to 1.3.5 beta

The Audacity team has released an updated version of the popular opern source audio editing application. Audacity 1.3.5 beta packs a bunch of minor updates, including bug fixes better file handling, and some interface improvements. Here are some of the things that jumped out at us:

Hit Shift while clicking record to start a recording at the end of an existing track

Users should see fewer invalid sample rate problems under LInux

Updated versions of the Portaudio, Libogg, LIbvorbis, and other libraries

More informative dialogs when dealing with unsupported file formats

New keyboard shortcuts
Audacity is already one of the best free audio editing applications for Mac, Linux, and Windows, and the program just keeps getting better.

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.

One of the best ringtone creators I've ever used! ;-)
It still amazes me that software that does exactly what it's supposed to, and does it right, is always free. Audacity, OpenOffice, GIMP, hell, even the free versions of ZoneAlarm and Avira Antivir has done more for me in the whole week I've installed them than a paid subscription for Norton Internet Security had done in a year.
Freeware, open-source etc. has come a long way from being stuff you find on 3 1/2" floppys on the front of computer mags, now outperforming most overpriced and under-developed paid software.

Nice program. I use it a fair bit.
Good to see it's, not dead.
If there was one thing I'd dearly like to see in it, it would be the ability to leave bookmarks in a long sample so I can scroll other parts and then quick jump back to the bit I was looking at.
