Gigabyte's GSmart Touch UI for Windows Mobile available for everyone
Gigabyte has released a new touch-friendly interface for Windows Mobile phones. While the Smart Touch UI is designed to run on Gigabyte's GSmart line of phones, an unofficial version of the software has been leaked and you can download it and install it on pretty much any Windows Mobile 5.0/6 device.
It's hard not to compare the Smart Touch interface to the Apple iPhone interface. Applications can be luanched by pressing large square-ish buttons, and you navigate the interface by dragging your finger across the screen. But Smart Touch does have a few innovative features up its sleeve.
When you first load the UI, you'll see just 4 icons on the bottom of the screen. But you can find more by moving your finger along the bottom of the screen to find 16 in all, including one square that you press to add new items to your menu. You can also customize your menu by dragging and dropping icons across the screen. You can easily flip back and forth between the Smart Touch interface and the default Windows Mobile UI by hitting the Today icon. To switch back, just hit the Smart Touch icon on your today screen.
You can check out a video of Smart Touch in action after the jump.

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.
They key to getting good at Graveyard Shift is learning to use ...

That's almost how the Sony Ericsson P1i UIQ3 OS works! They have 5 shortcut icons below but if you press the up arrow, it reveals 2 more rows, so you have 15 icons total to touch. It's not the whole screen as the upper part is still use for quick info like email/SMS/MMS/task/calendar/music/etc.

Does not work at all on my WM5 Treo 750wx. The exe file that launches doesn't do anything, just throws an error asking me to reinstall.

Amy: Just save the .cab file, copy it to your Windows Mobile device, and click on it.

Very weak.
Are we all having problem launching applications on our WinMo phones?
It'd be nice to get a gui refresh of some of the apps. Contacts, Email, etc... but this app is almost useless.
It may be cool on the HTC Touch but I really like the Today screen concept on WinMo phones.

I have the Tmobile Wing running wimo 5. It installed easily enough. The integration and speed is much improved over the HOME UI program featured a while back.
That said, it barely functioned. Only half the buttons worked and I could not get the settings to load to even attempt to tweak it. It un-installed as easily as it installed so kudos to the company for that.
Maybe version 2.0 will be fully functional on all wimo phones. For now, unless you have the phone it is specifically designed for you won't be impressed.
