Google and Salesforce.com announce Google Apps integration
Why exactly does this matter? Basically, it gives small business owners a one-stop shop for managing their workforce, customer, and marketing information. Saleforce has its own email application, for example, allowing you to keep track of business related emails from the same interface you use to manage contracts. But now that there's Gmail integration, you can send an email from Salesforce.com, Gmail, or a desktop application like Outlook linked to your account. All of your information will be viewable from the Salesforce web interface.
The folks at Common Craft put together a simple explanatory video which you can see above. We kind of like it better than the official video from Salesforce, but you can check that one out after the jump.

Nightmare for Microsoft. Enterprise class in the cloud computing that completely eliminates the need for Windows desktop and server OSes, Office and "Live" whatever.

Despite your obvious dislike for MS, Office and MS's business solutions aren't going anywhere.
What this video shows is that Google and Salesforce are aiming for a more online solution. The problem is, is do you trust Google? What if the ISP is have a lot of issues on a major workday? Depending on being online all the time, is a risk I'm betting most responsible companies won't take.
Microsoft's Unified Communications thing is taking aim at fixing the problems this video shows, and it's probably going to be more better. And I think MS is working on some project to do even better with integrating all platforms into one simpler thing. http://www.microsoft.com/uc/default.mspx

Microsoft's been doing this for a long time already. And the major difference is, do you trust Google with your online stuff?
I wouldn't, but that's up to you.
