There are a handful of decent programs for Windows that will help you determine if the software on your PC is up to date. But as far as we know, nobody's ever developed such an application for Windows Mobile. Until now. AppToDate is a utility for Windows Mobile that checks to see if your installed software is up to date, and if not, it will automatically download updates. Right now, only a handful of applications are supported, and AppToDate is still in the early beta stages. But we love the concept. Imagine only having to install software on your phone or PDA once. From then on, every time an update is issued, it would be installed automatically.
Developers can join the beta by adding AppToDate support to their applications, and anyone can download and install the application on their Windows Mobile device. Assuming they have Windows Mobile 5.0 or later. Windows Mobile 2003 doesn't appear to be supported.

This is something that blew me away when i switched from windows mobile (user of 3 years) to a hacked iphone last week (which i'm very happy with).
For those unaware: When you hack your iphone you can install a program called Installer (often it is included with jailbreaking programs as a check box). Then, you just open installer from the iphone itself, and voila - almost every 3rd party app made for hacked iphones (there are a LOT) are right there, organized in categories, ready to browse and install right over WiFi or EDGE (and since most programs are pretty small, even edge usually only takes a couple seconds). You can easily uninstall from the same program, and the program will notify you if anything you have installed has an update avaliable, and installing the update only takes 3 clicks. It's really amazing how the whole community came together to make installing software this easy from a variety of developers!
But what blew me away more than anything was that the iPhone, so often ridiculed for being so locked down, had been hacked to the point that installing software on this "locked down" device has become a million times easier than it ever was with windows mobile, an open platform anyone can develop for! Within 2 or 3 minutes of grabbing a jailbroken iphone with installer.app installed on it, i can install a guitar tuner, a tip calculator, a theme manager, and a pac-man port, all for FREE, and without knowing anything about the apps in advance.
I may have left windows mobile, and i don't see myself coming back any time soon, but i still wish the developers for it could actually come together and do what the iphone hacking community has done, it is a HUGE improvement over fumbling through strange websites on a small screen hoping to find a .CAB to install somewhere.
Maybe this program will be the first steps?
