Dziobas RAR Player is a media player with a couple of nice features, but one that stands out in particular: the ability to play an incomplete RAR file. With videos that have been compressed as RAR files, you usually have to wait until the entire archive is downloaded before you can uncompress the file for playback. With Dziobas RAR player, you can view any portion of the RAR file you've downloaded without having to wait for the rest. This can be helpful in a few ways:
- You can make sure that the RAR file is actually what it claims to be
- You can make sure that you have the proper codecs on your system to playback the file
- You can watch the video while the rest downloads; if you time it right, you can watch the RAR file all the way through without ever having to uncompress it.
Dziobas RAR player also supports subtitles, has a thumbnail generator, and more. The free program is Windows only.

This is a great idea for an app. I have always wanted something like this, hope someone mimics it for the Mac OS

And since VLC is 100x better then any other media player out there, it's win/win.

I don't know about OSX, but in Linux and Windows VLC can pretty much play RAR files out of the box -- no need for a special 3rd party utility to assist.

As CDRUDY posted, this functionality is already available for all platforms and has been for at least two years!! It's unfortunate that the Winblows fanboys who run this blog rarely recognise programs unless they run on Windows only. When something runs only on Macs, they write "unfortunately this is only available for Macs".
Not only is this not news, but what happened to the "unfortunately"?

Maybe someone can second me on this, but doesn't VLC out of the box play only non-segmented rar files?

Let wait and see video with styled subtitle (such as ASS), and you will think that VLC is the worst player ever (among the line that can play video without installed codecs).
