Download Squad Week in Review

Download Squad logoBeen so busy trying to decide whether or not to drop out of the presidential race that you haven't had time to keep up on the week's technology news? Worry not dear reader, we've got you covered. Here are some of our favorite articles from the past week.

Download Squad does April Fools

In case you didn't notice, we had a few articles on April 1st that were a bit... factually challenged. We had a great time writing these stories and we hope you enjoyed them. For the record, here's a roundup of the stories that weren't entirely true. But we're holding out hope that some of them could still happen one day:

SXSW may have been last month, but we managed to catch up with so many awesome folks that we're still working through our backlog of interview videos. Here are some of the latest:

Windows Search 4.0 v Google Desktop 5.5

Last week Microsoft released a technical preview of Windows Search 4.0, its desktop search application for Windows Vista and XP. So we decided to see how it stacks up against Google Desktop, one of the most popular free desktop search applications around.

Firefox 3 beta 5 released

If Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron beta isn't exactly ready for prime time, Firefox 3 beta 5 shows that sometimes a beta tag is just a formality. The latest Firefox release has addressed a huge number of bugs from earlier versions, and provides a feature-packed, nearly-stable alternative to Firefox 2 or Internet Explorer 7. If you're not ready to make the switch yet, you can also check out Firefox 3 beta 5 portable edition, which you can run from a flash drive without affecting your Firefox 2 settings.

And here are a few more of our favorite stories from the last week of March/first week of April:

Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game. The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...
