So you think you can type? Before you say anything: no, it's not a pitch for a new reality show. Whether you think that you're a fast typist or not, you have to appreciate this: a medical transcriptionist who typed so fast and so frequently that the keys of their keyboard became completely worn through.
Of course, we understand that there are a number of factors when it comes to wear on a keyboard. If you type in between bites of a KFC multi-piece extra crispy chicken bucket, for example, or if the tips of your fingers are worn rough from all those years of forced labor in a Siberian prison, then your keyboard might be more prone to degradation.
The question is, does reading about someone typing so fast that their keyboard melted make you green with envy? How about orange with desire?
If you'd like to try melting a keyboard with your keystrokes, then you'll need to get a little practice in. We've covered a large number of online typing tutors in the past. Or, if you prefer a download, you can check out Stamina Typing Tutor (thanks for the link, Aseem).

I've worn many of my keys unlabeled and shiny, but never all the way through. Then again, looking at the age of that keyboard, the user could easily have been typing on it for a decade, so if I had gone that long between replacements I might have that problem, too. I've been clocked as high as 116wpm, although I usually average more around 90. And I used to do transcription, so I know what a workout it can be.

That's just incredible. On keyboards in the past I've managed to wear through the labels on the keys, but I still have them all on this keyboard. A couple of keys, however, are started to fade just a tad.
I *have* messed up keys from repeated use, especially on laptops. Never actually gone through though. Maybe I should start typing more so I can get to that point in geekdom... if I didn't love my keyboard so much. I'm sure I'll get plenty of typing done with reaching a new level in schooling next year anyway. Whether that is good or bad is to be decided.
I wonder if after a while the average character count by comment will be higher than average as people ramble along to try to match the picture or at least attempt to melt the keyboard. Or maybe I am the only one. I wouldn't be surprised. =D

I've heard that it depends on the oils that are on your skin. That's why some people can remove the labels, and others who do just as much typing do not.
That being said, I've never removed labels, but I have totally warn down the bump on the home keys back in my data processing days.
