Leopard 10.5.2 and graphics update now available

The latest release for Mac OS X Leopard, 10.5.2 is now available The update, which weighs in at a whopping 343 megabytes if you choose to download the combo update from Apple.com or a slightly less mammoth 180 megabytes from within Leopard's Software Update tool.

As always, we recommend making back-ups of any critical or important files before upgrading your system. After installing 10.5.2, users are encouraged to download the 48.9 megabyte Leopard Graphics Update 1.0.

- Resolves Airport issues that result in kernel panics when running certain programs (we'll let you know if this means Azureus won't kernel panic on us anymore)
- Updated Stacks option adds "folder view" for all of us annoyed at seeing a document or file instead of our folder of choice.
- You can turn off menu bar transparency (that should thrill many) and overall menu translucency has been reduced.
- Fixed an issue where set-up assistant could randomly start up
- Adds a menu bar option for accessing Time Machine
- Additional RAW and iSynch support for new devices

With Halloween fast approaching, it's a great time to get in some practice defending your territory against zombies. In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.

Where can I find this 180MB update? Even from Leopard's software update, I still get the 341MB version. I live in the country, and can only use a satellite service for my isp. They put a cap on how much I can bring down (250MB), so I would love to find the smaller update. Thanks...

If software update is only giving you the 341 megabyte option, that's likely all you will be able do download. I can try to see if that file can be compressed any more with RAR or Stuffit or something.
Is the 250 meg cap per file or total? If it is only per file, try downloading some of the other updates first (like the 10.5.1 update if you haven't already downloaded that) and some of the recent software updates. Get those off of the Apple Downloads page. Then try Software Update again.

No, the cap is total:( I've already downloaded 10.5.1, so I guess I will have to do it in sessions at the end of the next couple of days with whatever I have left over. Thanks Christina!

Yay for fixing kernel panics, I was tired of it crashing while I was trying to torrent Steal This Film II

It fixed some of the bugs with Airport disk usage, but it also made it so I get a kernel panic when I try to partition my drive with boot camp. Not good.
It also fails to fix problems with Quicktime Pro exporting. But oh well. I'm happy enough with the Airport disk fixes.

Finally, we don't have to download third party applications to change the stacks icons! I also like the fact that a time machine icon appears in the top bar, so now I know when the backup is going to happen, and I can tell it to backup without going into my system preferences.

looks like azureus is running ok, ran all night last night with no kernel panic; with 10.5.1 it would lock up after a few hours

Yup! Sometimes I was getting as many as 6 a day in Azureus, I haven't had any since installing 10.5.2 -- looks like they fixed the problem.

I feel stupid as hell, but I've installed the update and restarted but I cannot find any options for the translucent menu bar or for dock stack options. Can someone clue me in.

No, they kind of hide it -- go to Desktop & Screensaver in system preferences, in the desktop section there is a check box to enable or disable translucent menu bar.

Oh, and for Stacks, right click on the stack and there is a new display option that you can use to select "folder" or "stacks" -- folder will always display a folder, stacks will do the traditional method.

I don't want to try to hijack this thread, but I've tried everywhere else to find a way to resize windows by dragging the SIDE, rather than just the bottom right corner. I was hoping with a new OS X release this would happen. Am I the only one who wants it? And since I'm probably already in trouble here, how about a way to make the tops of the windows easier to tell apart...when everything is graphite gray it's sometimes hard to hit the right 'jewels'.
