Twitpic: Share your photos on Twitter
Have you heard of Twitpic? No, we didn't just call you a bad name. Promise. Twitpic is a new entry into the Twittersphere that allows users to upload photos from their computer to Twitter. The interface is simple, and so is the actual uploading.
First, you enter your Twitter login information. Second, you select an image to share. Third, you add a caption (if wanted) and post the picture. You can then view the photo from the Twitpic page or from your Twitter homepage. Easy as cake.
An obvious disadvantage to Twitpic is that you have to be in front of your computer to post your images. Contrast this with other services such as VisualTwitter and MobyPicture, which allow you to upload an image from your mobile device. Seeing as Twitter really shines as an on-the-go social network, this limitation might be devastating.
You make the call.

"...Twittersphere allows users to upload photos from their computer to Twitter..." That seems slightly misleading. No images are placed on the Twitter servers. From what I can tell, uploaded images are on Twittersphere's server, and TinyURL is generated, then sent as an update on Twitter.
All this has been on Flickr for a while. Inside your Flickr account is a machine generated and unique phone number for you to send pictures taken with your camera phone to. After sending the picture, it can be viewed on that same camera phone at:
http://m.flickr.com/
...of course once Microsoft gets it hands on FLickr all the above user convenience and elegance will be replaced with endless error messages and a vicious licensing scheme that must be paid otherwise your mobile phone will cease to function.

Noah:
Good to hear that you're working on mobile uploading. We really like the site layout.
Todd:
Thanks for the clarification on that. You're right, the Twitter post after you've uploaded a photo is a tiny URL pointing to the photo.

Hm,
Did you know that there has been something much the same as this, and out for over a year now?

We are aware of Tweet-r; in fact, we have covered it in the past:

Thanks for writing about TwitPic.
We are working on the ability to send images to TwitPic from your phone and from email. I think that is are biggest feature request at the moment.
Hope you enjoy the site.
