Valentine's Day gifts for the sex nerd(s) in your life

Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and regardless of your relationship status, we think you should treat someone to some well-deserved fun. Whether the lucky recipient of your generosity is a long-term partner, a friend, or yourself, these gifts will appeal to the most discerning sex nerd in your life.

It should go without saying, but most of the following links are deliciously not safe for work.

Adult toys

HighJoy is an adult social networking site. We know... yawn, right? Wrong. HighJoy isn't simply an X-rated MySpace; via the site's chat area, members can control HighJoy-enabled products used by their partners, half a world away. Unfortunately, this orgasm-through-the-tubes technology is currently Windows-only. Fellow Mac users, let's make sure HighJoy knows that we want in on the fun, too!

For non-platform-specific remote fun, the Remote Butterfly can be controlled from up to 15 feet away. This toy was featured in the movie Shortbus, which, by the way, is another excellent gift idea.

A must-have for the music lover is the OhMiBod, an iPod-powered toy that vibrates to the beat of the music. How freakin' cool is that?! Proud OhMiBod owners can also share their favorite masturbation mixes on ClubVibe in the playlist section.

The SaSi -- a vibrator that learns and remembers what you like -- won't be available until April 2008, but the best things come to those who wait, right? A prototype was demonstrated at the recent AVN Expo; check out the video to see what's in store for you.

Strapped for cash? If you're the crafty sort, you can surprise that special someone with a DIY sex toy. Or, you and your partner(s) can attempt a project together. Even if the end result doesn't quite match the mock-up, hijinks will certainly ensue in the process.

Clothing

Believe it or not, HTTP status codes can be sexy, hilarious, and topical. The four messages available on ThinkGeek's HTTPanties ensure readiness for any situation, and are sure to be appreciated by any geek.

For the sex blogger in your life, we recommend the "I'm Blogging This" panties (which can be paired with a matching shirt).

Books

Many sex nerds will tell you that their second-favorite pastime is reading about sex (we assume you can guess what the first is). Some books that are sure to please include Regina Lynn's The Sexual Revolution 2.0; Audacia Ray's Naked on the Internet; Rachel P. Maines' The Technology of Orgasm; Best Sex Writing 2008, edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel; and Deborah Levine's The Joy of Cybersex. That last one was written in 1998, but it's interesting to read now in order to see what's become obsolete and what remains as relevant today as ten years ago.

Gifts that keep on giving

Give your sweetheart a pleasant surprise with a membership to one (or more!) of these hot, independent porn sites run by seriously smart sex nerds: NerdPr0n, Seska for Lovers, No Fauxxx, Naughty Merrick, or For the Girls.

Any of the adult games available from Sexploration Games are a good bet for impending naughtiness. There are several different types of games to choose from, depending on what you're into. You might recognize the site; it's also the home of the Sex Is Fun podcast, mentioned here.

Happy Valentine's Day, Download Squad readers! Now go have some fun.

Civiballs is a beautiful, soothing physics puzzle Time Waster

CiviballsI have an absolute weakness for physics games, and while Civiballs isn't the strongest physics-based game, what it lacks in the physics department it makes up for a few times over in style and fun.

In Civiballs, you are presented with a few colored balls, and your goal is to get those balls into the same-colored urn on the level. The "civi" part of Civiballs is that there are 3 sets of levels to play, each representing a different civilization. While the civilization doesn't affect gameplay, the artwork for each level is beautifully themed to it's appropriate era.

To play the game, you are given only one tool - a sword with which to cut the chains that are holding the balls. The puzzle part of the game is in figuring out what order, and with what timing to cut each chain. Do it right, and all the right balls end up in the right urns, with no stray balls entering an urn (a no-no). Do it wrong, and you get to start over again.

Civiballs is not terribly deep on gameplay; the entire game can be completed in about 15 minutes. But if you enjoy this type of game, it will be a very enjoyable 15 minutes.
