Skype released for PSP
During CES, we reported that Skype was coming to Sony's PSP. Today, anxious PSP owners can jump for joy as Sony has released the new firmware with Skype loaded and ready to rock.
If you have a Sony PSP Slim or Lite model, load up version 3.90 to get Skype on your portable piece of gaming heaven. Once you have it loaded and signed in, you can easily make free calls to your Skype contacts as well as see who is online form your contact list. Skype IM doesn't work, obviously, due to the lack of a way to enter characters.
Additionally, if you have SkypeOut credits to landlines and mobiles for cheap rates. The current rates for calling US/Western European phones is just under 2 cents a minute.

Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. Forgot to mention that people need the ( proprietary and not included ) PSP headset with microphone to get their Skype on.

Does anyone know why this is a PSP-2000 (slim and lite) exclusive. Doesn't the old model work with the headset?

They said the old model (psp 1000) doesn't have enough RAM to Allow Skype to work on that system.

It kills me you can only use it for voice on the PSP. It would be very helpful if they allow IM as well.

True, but 'til there's a real qwerty keyboard add on the IM chat feature would be kinda painful to use for anything more than "hi".

Japan release of SKYPE was delayed because the microphone did not meat SKYPE Specifications, it did not affect EUR or NA in any way. You don't really need a microphone to use skype unless you want to talk to other people or you can be an EARBUD on skype.
