Express Scribe makes transcribing audio a bit less painful
This free Windows/Mac software lets you play and pause audio while controlling the playback with keyboard hotkeys or an optional foot pedal. If you don't type 160 words per minute, the best feature is that you can slow down the playback to a more manageable speed and Express Scribe will work some digital pitch shifting magic so that you don't feel like you're listening to goth poetry.
Be forewarned, while Express Scribe is free, NCH Swift Sound, the company behind the software will try their best to get you to install trialware for a bunch of other programs including dictation software which is not free.

In Graveyard Shift, you take aim at zombies and other creepy-crawlies, blasting them into splatters of cartoony green guts. It's a casual first-person shooter, and it's very easy to get the hang of - use the mouse to aim, click to fire. Graveyard Shift has at least 15 levels, and it might even have some secret stages I haven't unlocked yet.

How do you use it to transcribe folders off of a digital recorder. I have my files downloaded but do not know how to connect the 2 together.

You click on the "Load" button in Express Scribe. Then locate the place on your hard drive where you have downloaded your files. This will add the sound files to your queue, and you can play them to transcribe.

NCH is crapware. I can't believe you offer this to your members.

For transcription I would recommend F4 audio and F4 video. Both are tools from a german author. You need to give them your mail adress but there follows no spam. Much better then NCH...

Express Scribe is the de facto standard for transcribers. Unless you're willing to spend money, it's really the ONLY decent software. It's not fantastic, but it's definitely not crapware. It does the job it's designed to do.

Also, that F4 software doesn't appear to work with standard transcription pedals. Just its own special one. Not an advantage.
