Get SnagIt 7.25 from TechSmith for free
The only catch is that just like with the Camtasia Studio offer, TechSmith is offering an older version of SnagIt for free. If you want all the latest features, you'll have to upgrade to SnagIt 8.2, which will set you back $20. But SnagIt 7.2.5 (the free version) is still quite a few steps up from the Windows print screen button. Here are a few of the features you get with SnagIt:
- Capture a region
- Capture a file
- Capture a scrolling window (like an entire web page)
- Capture a freehand region (draw a shape around the portion of the screen you want to capture

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Vista has a great built in tool for screen captures. Check out the "Snipping Tool" under Accessories. You can even assign a keyboard hot key to it by going into the shortcut properties and setting whatever you want.

Techsmith has another free product called Jing that is a great Vista compatible screen capture tool.

I know about the built-in screenshot tool, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. Good suggestion, though.
Jing sounds very interesting, and I'm going to try it out for a while. Thanks for the tip!
However, it'd be nice to know a program that's really free, not just free b/c it's in beta (or "project", as TechSmith is calling it). Or at least some other free betas, if/when Jing's beta ends.

While I understand this is news worthy I don't understand the underlaying disappointment that the newest version isn't the one being offered.
While North American computer magazines usually offer time or feature limited version, UK magazines often offer slightly older versions of the software for free with upgrade at a discount to the latest and greatest.
I have gotten some great programs over the years like Bryce 5 not too long ago, Cinema4D, Top Style CSS and others.
It seems like a good way to create a market for the companies by letting users get comfortable with their software over a prolonged time.

Does anyone know where you can download the 7.2.5 install? It says to use a CD...which i don't have. And all the downloads i can find are 8.x, which the key doesn't work with.
Useless free promotion for a company not giving anything away.
Nice.

WinSnap is the only way to go when doing screen captures, IMHO.

Be careful. Installation does not play nicely with Outlook 2007. You'll need to deactivate the Snag It Outlook plugin to keep Outlook from crashing.

Great tool - worth getting - especially it's free. Work well with XP - not sure about Vista.
