Techsmith offers free Camtasia Studio download
What's almost as good as stuffing your belly with a healthy Thanksgiving dinner? Free downloads! And Techsmith is offering a deal that will make your screencasting wishes come true. The company is offering its popular Camtasia Studio software up as a free download. The screencasting software currently sells for $300. But there is one small catch. The most recent version of Camtasia Studio is Camtasia 5, while the version available for free download is Camtasia 3. That means a few of the newer features will not be available. Nonetheless, it's free and upgradable to version 5 for half price if you choose.
To get started, grab your copy here, and request a registration key from Techsmith. Sorry, this is only available for PC users.
So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

Seems the page is put up in a rush. It says you are eligible to half-price upgrade to Camtasia Studio 5.0 if using version 3.1.3 but the version to download is 3.12. And the title is "Register for your Camtasia Studio 2 Software Key". BTW, how do people know of the page, there is no link or mentioning anywhere in the website.

I'll put in a plug for Camtasia 5 -- it may be expensive, but I just used it for a site walkthrough project and it was worth the toll. Very straightforward, easy to use, and the 'live zoom' feature is awesome. If they made a Mac version at half the price I'd recommend it unreservedly... :-)

This "free" version is a very old version,
which simply stalled on my modern PC.
Had to uninstall!
(Intel Dual Core, XP Pro w/latest patches,
2 Gig RAM, etc).
The prog froze when I tried to "Produce" a final version, with the "Recommended Settings".
I tried *everything* f/their Support FAQ,
(incl. "Reduce Video Acceleration" to none, etc).
TechSmith is a good company, but installing this older "free" version in your PC is a loser.
Uninstalled!

Don't worry about the 3.1.2/3.1.3 discrepancy. If you know you want the half-price deal on 5.0, just go to the "request a registration key" link shown above. And don't worry that it says version 2, either. You can request a key on that page even if you don't download 3.anything, and then it will take you to a page where you can order the 5.0 upgrade.
