Apple unveils WebApps directory for iPhone users
While the rest of the world is still scratching their heads trying to figure out why Apple doesn't officially support third party applications on the iPhone, Steve Jobs and company wants to highlight just how many applications you can run -- by visiting web sites optimized for the iPhone. We're not saying a Web apps directory is a bad idea. In fact, it's nice to have a single place to go for a list of online services that look good on a small touch-sensitive screen. But we'd be more impressed if you could calculate tips, convert measurements, or play Soduku without firing up Safari.
And honestly, we'd have thought Apple would have put together this list as soon as the iPhone was launched and kept it up to date. As it is, dozens of 3rd party websites and blogs have started keeping track of all the applications out there.

As an iPhone owner myself I guess this is useful but doing everything through the web means we will just need to charge our battery even more causing us to need a new battery in under a year. Personally I don't want this experience because while my battery is getting replaced what will I do for a phone with all my contacts? Apple needs to listen to their customers considering without customers they wouldn't have a business at all, and allow apps to be installed on the phone itself (even if the apps are made by Apple). It is ridiculous and don't get me started about the ringtones that cost a dollar a pop.

To top it all off, the god damned site doesn't even render in an iPhone friendly kind of way.

As much as I like the iPhone, no third party apps is a enough of a downer to keep me away. I don't really need much, but with the iPhone, I get nothing.
So instead I find myself looking a Centro with it's, like, ten year old OS. How crazy is that?

I feel pity for iPhone users. Apple is still really shafting you on the 3rd partyness, eh? Well, it's not a surprise, because Apple likes to control what its users can do.
With WinMo, I can pretty much download anything I want, install any 3rd party apps, I want, and the experience is just as awesome as the iPhone can be. It feels great to be a WinMo user.

Have any of you tried Applists.com? That seems to be ahead of the rest with iPhone applications.
