iPhone firmware 1.1.1 update released
Apple released a software update that added the iTunes Wi-Fi music store, support for TV-out, and louder speakerphone and receiver volume.

TruPhone demonstrates VoIP-over-WiFi on iPhone
TruPhone demonstrated the first implementation of VoIP over WiFi using the iPhone at DEMOFall in San Diego.

Google launched GMail Mobile
Google launched GMail Mobile that makes GMail on your iPhone look and feel more like Gmail on your computer.

Free iTunes downloads at Starbucks announced
Starting next Tuesday Starbucks will start passing out a "Song of the Day" card that can be used to download a free song onto your iPhone (or your computer).

Apple warns against unlocking your iPhone
Apple has started posting signs in their stores warning that unlocking your iPhone voids the phones warrently and may make your phone "permanently inoperable" after an Apple supplied iPhone update. The iPhone Dev Team who created the unlock for the iPhone issued a statement promising to create a way for users to return their unlock handset to its original factory-fresh state.
