As August draws to a close, the young uns are getting ready to head back to school. And you know what that means. Lots and lots of displays at the local drug store featuring pencils, 3 ring binders and headphones.Well, Mozilla isn't trying to sell you anything with their upcoming Campus Edition of Firefox. It's just as free as any other version of the web browser. But it comes with a few handy add-ons that might be useful for students, such as Zotero, StumbleUpon, and Foxytunes.
Wait, now that we think about it, Zotero's the only one of the three that's actually targeted specifically toward students, since it provides tools for researching and writing papers. We'll wait to see what other add-ons Firefox bundles with its campus edition before passing judgment, but it looks like you might as well just download and install Firefox 2.0.0.6 and install the appropriate add-ons yourself.
There are are variety of dictionary, library, citation, and other tools that could be helpful for doing research.
Aside from Zotero, what add-ons would you recommend for students?

...Microsoft tried the same idea, encouraging IE's use by students. But the 92 page EULA, an eleven year licensing agreement ( first year free, $300 a month every year afterwards ) and the fact that the "student version" of IE blocked the Google search page resulted in few student sign-ups.
But seriously, hoo-ray for Firefox and Mozilla!

I see no reason for a "Student Edition" of a web browser. That's like having "Student Edition" printer paper or toothpaste.
Marketers have gone off the deep end segmenting markets that don't need segmented. Even Mozilla's gotten into it now.

Sorry but this is really lame. Students need Foxytunes? How about they just use Firefox like everyone else and use whatever free addons they want. Mozilla's marketing is really getting annoying.

Tab effect: switch between tabs in a 3D effect (it impressed my friends)
Fullerscreen: the name says it all (also cool especially when you are browsing or watching a video)
Macfox II Theme + Fission add-on: Makes your browser look like Safari while the features of Firefox still remain. (another feature that impressed my friends)

I run a blog where I'm working to put together the best suite of freeware for Windows. I've got a lot of Firefox extensions listed in it. In fact, I've nearly completed that section of my site. So the college kids can come by, click on my 'extension' label and get my pick of the best Firefox extensions. I'm always working to identify new stuff and improve my selection but I've already built a great list of the best freeware on the Internet. Check out my blog for quick spam free value and the fastest path to the download page!
Sincerely,
Ethan Dickenson, Editor, reporter, janitor, 'Today's Best of Breed', The best suite of freeware for Windows.

Can't think of any student add-ons. But WOW - this is a huge marketing foot in the door. How about a web developer edition, and other industry targeted bundles.
