Communicating without Skype
Since Skype has been down, many people have been forced to resort to other P2P applications in order to communicate and send files. And let's note even talk about going the dreaded email, landline telephone and SMS route. Think about AllPeers, BitTorrent, and GNUnet and brains start buzzing about all the other leading peer to peer applications out there. Mashable has created a list of over 30 peer to peer services out there so that Skype's downtime can slowly slip your brain. Until you have to make a call that is.
DLS asks, what's your top P2P application?

So, just how good at time waster games are you? Think you've got the stuff? Well, The World's Hardest Game 2.0 doesn't think you do.
Yes, amazingly, it's possible to have a sequel to a game called "The World's Hardest Game". It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. That is, until I tried the game.
The mechanics of the game are very simple. You are a small red square, ...

How about using Gizmo instead of Skype? We use Gizmo for our podcast because it integrates recording, unlike Skype, which I believe you still have to pay for the record feature.
The only downside is that it records at 8 Khz and Garageband needs it at 44.1 Khz. So we have to use Audacity as our sound editing software. It would be great if I could find some software that let me record whatever comes across my soundcard (like say an Internet call) at 44.1 Khz.

@Eric J.
Audacity has a sound card recording feature. I can't remember exactly where it is, but I know it is there.

Audio Hijack Pro by Rogue Amoeba. It does just that - records whatever is going out your sound card and at really good quality too.

Jabber/XMPP and SIP is the standard not fucking Skype, that only can compete because they were bought up by eBay.
Use GizmoProject, OpenWengo or perhaps GoogleTalk. They do it right. Ok, Skype has also finally anounced SIP support. A good laugh.

@mg
Can you dial land lines with Google Talk? Didn't think so.
Gizmo Project looks good but the price at 1.9 cents a minute is going to cost me more than my unlimited SkypeOut each year.
SkypeIn is cheaper than Gizmo Call in. And in my opinion, Skype is all around a better app than any of the mentioned alternatives. Probably one of the best cross-platform apps I've ever used.
