MySpaceMP3: the almost useful MySpace music ripper

MySpace is a great place to find new music by your favorite artists. But if you'd rather not have to deal with MySpace's site design, MySpaceMP3 is an almost useful web page for downloading music from MySpace without actually visiting the social networking site.

There are two reasons for that "almost."

MySpaceMP3 has a clean and simple interface, but it hardly lets you avoid the ads you'd find on MySpace. In fact, every time you try to download a song, you have to deal with a huge pop-up ad.
While the default MySpace player will let you know which songs you can download and which tracks you can just stream over the internet, MySpaceMP3 doesn't clearly make that distinction. It looks like you can download any track, until you try to retrieve streaming-only songs and receive an error message.

MySpaceMP3 doesn't actually host any music on its site, it just provides download links for songs on MySpace. All you have to do is enter the name of a band the way it appears after www.myspace.com.

Mostly, I think MySpace is a bit of a red herring when it comes to doing music business online. You must have the account -- you'd be crazy not to have a presence where there are so many people -- but it's an attention vacuum. I don't know anyone who spends more than 30 seconds at a MySpace page other than their own.

I guess this is why music scrapers like this one seem so appealing.

Or use Safari on OSX and just use the Activities menun to rip any song, streaming or otherwise, as long as it has been played once. :) Pants quality though.

Myspacegrab sucks too, it's not even finding users that I KNOW exist. My own music as well as more famous, so it's not like it's particular. anyone know of one that acutally WORKS?

Myspacegrab.com is up and running and there's no myspace grabbing website that I'd rather use.

Civiballs is a beautiful, soothing physics puzzle Time Waster

I have an absolute weakness for physics games, and while Civiballs isn't the strongest physics-based game, what it lacks in the physics department it makes up for a few times over in style and fun.

In Civiballs, you are presented with a few colored balls, and your goal is to get those balls into the same-colored urn on the level. The "civi" part of Civiballs is that there are 3 sets of levels to play, each representing a different civilization. While the civilization doesn't affect gameplay, the artwork for each level is beautifully themed to it's appropriate era.

To play the game, you are given only one tool - a sword with which to cut the chains that are holding the balls. The puzzle part of the game is in figuring out what order, and with what timing to cut each chain. Do it right, and all the right balls end up in the right urns, with no stray balls entering an urn (a no-no). Do it wrong, and you get to start over again.

Civiballs is not terribly deep on gameplay; the entire game can be completed in about 15 minutes. But if you enjoy this type of game, it will be a very enjoyable 15 minutes.
