Active Share coming to YouTube
YouTube announced a couple of new features today, headlined by the comforting mutual-voyeurism of their Active Sharing. Like your favorite pair of binoculars, Active Share lets you watch whoever is watching you. A list is kept of videos that a user has watched, so someone can view your page and get a glimpse into what great tatse you have. So now you have to be careful of what you watch, just so you can keep up apperances. No more watching the new Avril Lavigne video 10 times an hour guilt free.
This is great for finding people with similar tastes to yours so that you can do your best to annoy them about it. There is no better feeling than watching some video that some annoying co-worker sends you, hating it, and then getting 50 messages from other users wanting to talk about it. An inbox full of "Isn't that video where the cat plays the piano the cutest thing you've ever seen? You want to get together and talk about cats and kittens for hours on end?" Not unless we're talking about ways to get rid of them.
Anyway, the feature is something that a lot of people will like, a lot of people will use, and a lot of people won't even bother turning on. Some people who secretly like to watch Avril Lavigne and might not want too many people knowing about just how incredibly talented you think she is deep down inside and how her catchy pop melodies make your insides tingle. And that's what everyones talkin' 'bout...
