New UPS feature lets you redirect packages over the web
It's 3:00 in the morning, and after pulling your hair out all night, you realize that the reason you can't get that program to run is that you need more RAM. A few seconds later you've got 4GB of memory shipping from Newegg. And then you remember that you entered your home address for shipping but you'll be at work when the box arrives.Up until now, you had to wait until UPS put a sticker on your door saying they tried to make a delivery while you weren't home before you can deal with the problem. But now the company has rolled out UPS Intercept, a service that lets you, well, intercept packages while they're in transit.
Through the UPS Intercept page you can request:
- return to sender
- deliver to another address
- reschedule delivery
- have the package held at a UPS location for pickup

I have to say too little, too late. Not only does FedEx offer a similar service and has done so for years, IT'S FREE (as in beer)!
Although an okay attempt at listening to it's customers, it's turned a better service into a cash cow.

Actually, it looks like this service is only for shippers. From the fine print: "This fee-based service for shippers allows you to request the intercept of packages prior to delivery, providing greater flexibility in managing your shipping needs."
Not gonna do Doom guy much good, unless he can get someone on the phone at Newegg to intercept and redirect it for him.

If you want any of those above listed services, you can just call your local UPS depot (where the Brown Package Cars leave from in the morning and where all the packages come at the end of the day) and just request any of those services. I've done all 4 of those in the last 3 months and it didn't cost a dime! The folks at the shipping centers wont help you though, you gotta be sure to contact the local hub.

I wonder how response the system is....and how the drivers get updated...like if the item as been loaded on the truck already, I would presume that you cannot change it. I am actually waiting for UPS to pick up a package right now and no trace of them. I think that I might stick with FedEx.
