Any Twitter user knows how addicting and mostly pointless it can be. Add a dash of Google Maps mashup, stir, and you have Twittermap.

Twittermap gathers the locations of the last messages from the Twitter community feed, and plots them on a Google Map. The result is a giant world map with points from current active Twitter users. Is it useful? No, it's just cool to look at what geographic areas other Twitter users are based in. You can also check out Geotwitter, another implementation of the same basic idea.
