I'm sure a lot of you had holiday parties over the last few weeks. How did your planning go? You could surely have used the new MyPunchbowl service. MyPunchbowl is set to launch its online party planning service on January 15th. Built by Punchbowl Software, it allows users to create an online community for celebrations. Members can use the service before, during and after parties to coordinate events, research ideas from the community, and share party memories after the event. Unfortunately I was not in on the beta testing for the service, and it is now closed awaiting the January 15th launch. So we will have to stay tuned to check out the how well this service helps us party plan. Similar services in this sector include Evite.com, Eventful, and Upcoming.org.

An interesting idea, but
1. One oftentimes wonders where these sites get their names from -- are they deliberately picking inane names?
2. I wonder if statistical studies have been done on other online social planning sites and how widely used they have become...

Hi Chris,
You don't have to wait for betas yet to launch :-) Planypus (http://planyp.us) launched in November. You can easily and casually make plans with your friends without a lot of effort. You don't even have to be the organizer...just spark an idea like "lets go to dinner", have your friends fill in the details and when you're all done you can get notified by email, text messages, or rss. Check it out and let us know what you think!
