Parallels was my favorite app of 2006, without question.
In 2007 Vista will really be a star, IMO. I'm so sick of explaining RSS I cannot tell you. My belief is Vista will bring a number of technological advances to the world, and in a way, educate the masses on the power of computing. Saved searches, RSS, and WPF will be great, both for consumers AND for competition.

Other predictions: Apple will lose some shine on the star as Leopard turns into a turkey (of sorts). Anyone who bought a Mac just over a year ago will have issues running Leopard. Leopard will introduce a security hole the size of West Virginia in OS X. And there will be so many problems with upgraded installs that even power users running the latest hardware will see some very nasty things...

.net 3.0 will make a huge splash. People will drool over new pretty apps..that won't do much (not a slam on .net 3.0, but i see a lot of eye candy being amde)

WPF/E will start being used on many major websites., and will spark off a ton of flame wars.

Maybe ie8 and wmp12

iTunes 8 will add yet another view.

Office 2007 will either do really great, or really bad.

Linux willc ome up with something preally neat people will love...but it will end up being way too hard to use.


As for favorit app of 2006? I would have to say wmp11, becasue tht's the *only* playlist player I have ever sen that can handle folders. You can use teh folders stack to say on;y see all your file sin c:\mp3 which happens to be teh way i always used my mp3 collection before i got wmp11

Google Reader will continue to improve.

Google Calendar will start syncing with everything.

Firefox 3 will finally fix the memory leaks.

Vista will be slow to spread but good, while Leopard will embraced and fairly smooth. Time Machine and Dashboard's Web Clips will be winners.

Google Earth will combine with NASA for Google Universe or something like that.

2006? UBUNTU. I have been saved.

As for 2007? I think Linux is going to turn its focus to getting more useful. 2006 brought EXTREME accessibility ("user-friendliness") to Linux through Ubuntu, and I think what's ahead is the ability to TRULY replace proprietary systems. Spread will be healthily aided by PS3, and maybe even Wii via wiili.

Speaking of Wiili, that is my pick for the tech sensation of the year. Nerds will relish the idea of using their Wii as a computer, especially using the Wiimote. I'm willing to bet Nintendo will pick up on the project and aid it, and possibly distribute it.

Vista will be highly acclaimed by those with computers that can handle it, and it will crush those who own crap computers. Mac users may be tempted, and there will be some converts, but in the end leopard will keep Mac fans (self NOT included) happy and using those hunks of plastic with the apple logo on them (and being assholes about it, too).

hmm... let me gaze into the crystal ball... lmao.

vista: will be SUPERB. for five minutes.

os 10.5: mm, yeah. it'll look exactly like os 10.4, but manage to cram another "one million" features in. right.

parallels and bootcamp: will become so insanely popular that they will achieve "napoleon dynamite" like recognization. some random child in a spelling bee will shout "bootcamp! w00t!" in his victory shpeel.

nsfw: will be effectively used only by porn sites to generate more traffic.

linux: distros such as ubuntu, kubuntu, xubuntu, and mint linux will take over the world. edubuntu will rule the scholastic computer-dom. some form of slax will become standard on every laptop.

freebsd: will continue to suck.

then, without warning, google will loose its operating system on any computer that visits google, and will forcibly take over the planet and destroy all knowledge that can't be googled. google space will finally finish mapping the entire vastness that is space. millions of computers will catch on fire as the program desperately tries to find "earth" on the command of some poor, stupid user who thought he/she could get away with actually using a piece of googleware.

oh, and more first graders will continue to confuse george bush with jesus christ. (supersize me)

now, seriously:
vista will rock. so will os 10.5. bootcamp and parallels will become mildly popular, as more people realize it is nice to be able to use mac and pc on the same computer.
linux will become a more valid alternative to the other two oses, with ubuntu and all it's variations.
google will continue to create more awesome software that is really helpful.
oh, and 2007 should be dubbed "the year of the operating system". forget that stupid monkey, or rat, or whatever it is this year. lol.
