TiVoToGo DRM cracked
Over at PVR Wire, Brad Linder reports that the DRM for TiVo's TiVoToGo has been cracked, allowing video recorded on your TiVo to be decoded and viewed on any device. TiVo File Decoder is available from SourceForge, the gritty details of the DRM scheme have been documented at the Alt.org wiki, and naturally the source code is available, too. This will undoubtedly please Mac and Linux-using TiVo owners whose computers have thus far been absent of official TiVo software, not to mention those who don't think they should have to buy TV shows for viewing on their iPods when they're already paying $50 a month for cable plus TiVo's monthly fees.

How do cable companies get away with raising prices so much when prices other tech/telecom related services keep falling ?

Because there's no competition. Verizon is bring FIOS to our area next year. I can't wait. I probably won't use their TV services, but the competition will be great.
