Windows Vista not quite ready yet

According to Microsoft exec Jim Allchin, Windows Vista isn't on track for RTM (release to manufacturing) on the its target date of October 25. Allchin says they're still "in pretty good shape" but that Vista doesn't yet fulfill all five categories they're looking at before RTM: reliability, security, performance, driver coverage and application compatibility. Allchin is confident they're still on track for Vista's January 2007 launch, but the delay will undoubtedly push back the launch to corporate customers, which Microsoft has said will be before the end of the year. ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley, who interviewed Allchin, has placed her wager on an early November RTM and a November 30 business launch.

It doesn't seem logically possible, since if the first one was actually the world's hardest, how could another one come along and share the moniker? It made me doubt the name in the first place. jordan, how much did microsoft pay you guys for advertising their vista crap ?
ever since eversince, vista's not ready for the public. do you guys really need to bring it up 10 times a week ? how about RC version distro one might ask, lets face it- its a complete crap. seriously, 600MB just to run a non crucial app called AERO? even when its widely distributed next year, it still will not be complete, cause there's always bugs and holes deep in its core, midgets at redmond will still come up with bunch of service packs, security patches. this endless, mindless update loop will corrupt the technology industry for the years to come..
Yet there's still idiots out there willing to pay $400 bucks for this piece of incomplete software, i don't get it

Considering that every other day I'm accused of being a rabid Microsoft-basher, Jack, I really don't think my integrity is in question, here. (And in case that's not clear enough: Download Squad writers never accept money, gifts, or other incentives to write about any product or company--we are, in fact, expressly forbidden to do so.) We write about Vista news because a significant portion of our readers are interested in it. If you want proof, just look to the right, where you'll see that three of our ten most-commented-on recent posts are about Vista, and, to be frank, none of them are very complimentary.

I'd rather Microsoft be very sure about the quality of Vista, then just releasing it early. RTM in November I guess.
